Water Level Check

Will this line still fit when the water moves?

For a fixed dock or a piling. The boat floats up and down; the dock does not. Plain geometry, worked out for the range you expect.

ft

Level distance from the boat cleat to the dock cleat or piling.

ft

How far the dock cleat sits ABOVE the boat cleat when you tie up (negative if below).

ft

Above the level you tie up at.

ft

Below the level you tie up at.

in

How much the needed length may change. Blank = 6 in.

Lake Erie note: wind can pile water up at one end of the lake. The National Weather Service in Cleveland says that "in an extreme case, water levels between Toledo and Buffalo can differ by more than 10 feet." Use the range your marina or the forecast gives for your berth.

Measure two things on the dock

The run (level distance between the two cleats) and the height (how far the dock cleat is above the boat's cleat). Then the rise and fall you expect.

Try 10 ft run, 2 ft up, 1.5 ft either way
